Where did dignity go?

There is no dignity in anything anymore.

Whether you think politics have always been sh*t (they have), the absolute lack of dignity is appalling.

Regardless of the tribe to which you subscribe.

People have no shame.

When has it ever been moderately acceptable to bully someone for sport? Think of all the silly posts that people make on Facebook selling “this” or joyfully saying “that” and are put down by “randos” because that stranger just didn’t like your face. Or your post. Or that rando had a bad day and decided to take it out on some innocent person posting cat videos because he or she could hide behind a screen?

I know I’m “old.” Whatever. I’m old school. And that means treating people with respect and kindness (I apologize for my past and future behavior in traffic… I’m not perfect.)

Dignity is not elusive. If you don’t have it, you can acquire it.

dignity ^{[ dig-ni-tee ]} bearing, conduct, or speech indicative of self-respect or appreciation of the formality or gravity of an occasion or situation. (dictionary.com)

Dignity is the right of a person to be valued and respected for their own sake, and to be treated ethically. It is of significance in morality, ethics, law and politics as an extension of the Enlightenment-era concepts of inherent, inalienable rights. What the world needs now is dignity. In literally everything.

Including divorce.

Think about that. (I’ll wait.)

Just because it didn’t work out with your spouse, do you need to yell and scream and shout?

Does that make the break-up any better? Does that help your mental health? Your physical health? YOUR KIDS? (It does not. Period. It doesn’t.)

What are you throwing into the universe? How are you effecting your karma? (… affecting your karma? Again I am not perfect.)

Keep your cool, man… keep your cool. Because in divorce, lack of dignity costs a lot of money.

You can keep your money if you keep your cool… if you’re dignified in divorce. If you’re not … you’re literally giving away your money for a fight that WILL end. No judge will make your spouse stay married to you. Not in Florida.

A dignified divorce, ESPECIALLY if there are kids involved, is the only way to split.
